Bret VanderStreek was named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week.
Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Bret VanderStreek (Pella, Iowa) has been named the MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week after he scored two goals in the Gusties 2-1 victory over Carleton on Wednesday, and the opening goal in Gustavus’ 3-2 win over Concordia on Sunday. In Wednesday’s key win over the defending MIAC Champion, VanderStreek scored both goals in nearly identical fashion. He received a pass from the midfield while he was breaking through the middle of the field at the top of the penalty box and then beat one defender before sliding the ball past the goalkeeper just inside the post. VanderStreek’s first goal came in the 43rd minute, while his second goal came in the 54th minute. Gustavus is currently 2-0 in the MIAC and 4-1-2 overall.
The Gusties play next on Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m. against Saint John’s in Collegeville, Minn.
