The Gustavus volleyball team improved its record to 7-4 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Macalester College on Wednesday night in St. Paul. Janey Helland had nine kills for the Gusties, and Nicki Ainsworth added six kills and 16 digs. The scores for the sets were 25-16, 25-12, and 25-20.

Gustavus came out strong against the Scots and notched 12 kills in the first set, with an attack percentage of .333. Angela Ahrendt totaled five kills in the set, and Olivia Warren was not far behind with four of her own. Sam Broderius added seven assists to help pace the Gusties towards their 25-16 first set win. The second set stayed close until about halfway through. The Gusties held a slim 15-12 lead, but then went on a 10-0 run to finish off the set 25-12 in a convincing fashion. The 10-0 run was highlighted by two Helland kills. In the third set, Malea Noennig helped the Gusties seal the win as she assisted on eight of the teams 12 kills. Meghan Gerhing and Ainsworth each had four kills in the final frame to help bring down the Scots.

For the game, Gustavus received 17 assists from Noennig and 13 from Broderius. The Gusties also had two players with double-digit digs, Ainsworth with 16 and Jenny Ewert with 10. Macalester was led by Marie Godwin who had eight kills and eight digs in the match.

The Gusties play next on Saturday, September 19, at home against Waldorf College at 1:00 p.m.
