Football Player Joe Welch Named to D3football.com Pre-Season All-America Team

Gustavus Adolphus safety Joe Welch, a senior from Hastings, Minn., has been named to the D3football.com Pre-Season All-America Football Team. Welch, a second team selection, was one of four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes honored on the D3football.com Pre-Season All-America First and Second Teams. That group included Welch, Josh Ostrue (First Team, C, St. Thomas), Tim Cornish (First Team, CB, Bethel), and Nick Gunderson (Second Team, DT, Saint John's).

Gustavus Set to Induct Nine New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has chosen nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2009 inductees include Kerri Pool Foss '94 (Soccer), Dan Dohmeier '86 (Baseball), Bob Klindworth '93 (Cross Country/Track and Field), Leisha Johnson Ronning '90 (Basketball), C.J. Page '91 (Gymnastics), Scott Anderson '92 (Football), Jon Lindquist '92 (Golf), Amy McCrea Morrell '91 (Tennis), and Steve Wilkinson (Coach).

Brenden Huber Named Assistant Coach For Cross Country and Track and Field Programs

Brenden Huber, a native of Huron, South Dakota and a 2005 graduate of the University of South Dakota, has been hired to be the new full-time assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs at Gustavus Adolphus College. Huber, who has been a part-time assistant for the past three years, will begin his duties in the middle of August.

Welch, a first team selection, was one of four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes honored on the Lindy's Pre-season All-America First and Second Teams. That group included Welch, Josh Ostrue (First Team, St. Thomas), Brad Eckelmann (Second Team, Carleton), and Ryan Wimmer (Second Team, Saint John's).

Dale Bahr Named Head Coach of Gustavus Men’s and Women’s Track and Field And Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams

Dale Bahr has been named the new head coach of both the men's and women's track and field programs and the men's and women's cross country programs at Gustavus Adolphus College. Bahr, a 1995 graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, is replacing Tom Thorkelson, as the men's and women's track and field coach, and Jed Friedrich as the men's and women's cross country coach. Bahr will begin his full-time duties in August.

Chaska Cubs Will Host MIAC Night On Saturday, July 11

The Chaska Cubs will host their annual Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Night on Saturday, July 11. The Cubs will play the Joe & Stans team from St. Paul at the Chaska Athletic Park at 7 pm. Anyone wearing a shirt or hat from a MIAC institution will get into the game free.

Gustavus Softball Team To Be Featured on NCAA Spring Championship Show On CBS This Saturday

The Gustavus softball team will be featured on the NCAA Spring Championship Show, which will air this Saturday, July 4 at 1 pm (Central Time) on CBS Television (which is WCCO or KEYC in southern Minnesota). The Gusties made an impressive run in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament finishing third, which is the best finish in the program's history. Coach Jeff Annis and his squad, the MIAC regular season champions at 21-1, finished with an overall mark of 42-9.
