Gustavus junior Kaelene Lundstrum captured first place in the heptathlon at the MIAC Multi-Event Championships which were held at Carleton College on Thursday and Friday. Lundstrum tallied a total of 4,550 points to defeat defending heptathlon champion Leah Kay of Concordia by 61 points. Lundstrum’s total is the third highest in Division III this season and provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Sophomore Janey Helland and Laura Secor also finished in the top eight for Gustavus as Helland finished third with 3,944 points and Secor finished seventh with 3,686 points. The Gusties earned 18 points toward the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Friday, May 7 at Carleton College.
