Gustavus junior Kaelene Lundstrum scored 2,885 points to stand in first place after the first day of the MIAC Heptathlon which is being held at Carleton College in Northfield. Lundstrum leads Leah Kay of Concordia by 189 points. Sophomores Janey Helland and Laura Secor finished in third place with 2,259 points and fifth place with 2,184 points, respectively.
Lundstrum placed first in the 100 meter hurdles (15.61) and the shot put (39-2 1/2), tied for first in the high jump (5-3 3/4), and posted a second place finish 200 meter dash (27.08).
On Friday, all three athletes will compete in the long jump, the javelin, and the 800 meter run.
Results in the heptathlon will count towards the Gusties point total at the MIAC Outdoor Championships which will take place next Friday and Saturday at Carleton College.
