The Gustavus softball team swept its seventh consecutive MIAC doubleheader by knocking off St. Ben’s by the scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 9-2 in St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon. Rachael Click sparked the Gustie offense as she was 6-for-6 on the day. Click hit two home runs, scored five runs and drove in five runs. Betsie Collins was the winning pitcher in game one, and Callie Nelsen was the winning pitcher in game two. Gustavus is now 25-3 overall and 14-0 in MIAC play.
In the first game, seven different players pounded out 11 hits as Gustavus scored two in the first, two in the second, three in the third and in the fourth on its way to an 8-0 win in five innings. Kirsten Prunty was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Rachael Click and Lisa Klass also recorded two hits each. Betsie Collins continued her dominance on the mound as she allowed two hits and struck out seven without walking a batter to register the win.
In the second game, Rachael Click sparked the Gusties as she was 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Kelly Myers, Lisa Klass, and Andrea Brown each registered two hits as the Gusties continued to knock the ball all over the field. Callie Nelsen pitched six innings and recorded the win on the mound. She scattered seven hits and struck out nine. Erin Truebenbach pitched the seventh inning.
