Men’s Tennis Loses To Williams 7-2 Posted on March 24th, 2009 by

The Gustavus men’s tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss to Williams College in Claremont, Calif. on Tuesday. It was the second loss for the Gusties to a Division III opponent this season. Gustavus is currently ranked #7 in the latest ITA Division III poll, while Williams is ranked #5. The Gusties are now 17-5 on the season.

After Williams won the doubles point at the #3 spot, Gustavus’ Charlie Paukert and Ben Tomasek picked up an 8-5 win at #1 doubles to even the score at 1-1. The Ephs recorded their second point at the #2 position when Nick Lebedoff and Will Petrie defeated Mike Burdakin and David Koppel 9-8 (7-3 in the tiebreaker).

In singles play, Mike Burdakin dropped the first set 6-2 against Jeremy Weinberger at the #2 spot before coming back to win the next two sets by identical 6-3 scores to tally the Gusties’ second point of the match.

Gustavus will play #10 University of Redlands on Wednesday afternoon as they continue their spring break trip to Southern California.
