Gustavus Adolphus junior Kaelene Lundstrum (Bird Island, Minn.) has been named the Outstanding Women’s Field Athlete at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships after winning titles in the pentathlon and the high jump. Lundstrum also as earned the Women’s Outstanding Performance of the Meet for her performance in the pentathlon.
Lundstrum successfully defended her pentathlon title with a school and conference record total of 3,445 points on Thursday evening. The previous school and conference record was 3,342 points set by Lundstrum in 2008 when she won the conference title. Her mark of 3,445 points met a NCAA provisional standard and is the second-highest point total in Division III this season. Lundstrum won each individual event in the pentathlon as she finished 311 points ahead of the second-place finisher. She finished the 55-meter hurdles in 8.83 seconds, cleared a height of 5′ 2.25″ in the high jump, threw the shot put for 42′ 4″, recorded a distance of 16′ 5.25″ in the long jump, and completed the 800 meters in 2:34.13.
Lundstrum also defended her 2008 high jump title when she cleared a height of 5′ 5.75″ on her final attempt to win the event on Friday. She finished second in the shot put on Saturday as she recorded a distance of 41′ 0.5″. Lundstrum also took third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.82) on Friday.
