The Gustavus women’s hockey extended its unbeaten string to 15 games with a 3-1 win over the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul on Friday night. The Gusties scored a single goal in each period and held a 3-0 lead until the Wildcats scored with :40 left in the contest. Jenny Pusch, Allie Schwab, and Jessie Doig scored for Gustavus. Danielle Justice picked up the win in the nets.
Gustavus took a 1-0 lead at 11:21 of the first period when Jenny Pusch scored a power play goal with assists from Jessie Doig and Melissa Mackley.
The Gusties extended the lead to 2-0 when Allie Schwab scored an even strength goal at 5:19 of the second period with an assist from Melissa Mackley.
Gustavus closed out its scoring at 17:01 of the third period when Jessie Doig scored a power play goal with assists from Melissa Mackley and Allie Schwab. Mackley’s three assists in a game is a career best for the forward who leads the team in scoring with 5 goals and 15 assists for 20 points.
St. Kate’s cut the lead to 3-1 in the final minute of play when Jess Kniefel scored an even strength goal at the 19:20 mark. Aryn Ball was credited with the assist.
Danielle Justice improved her season record to 7-1-3 in the nets as she recorded 23 saves in picking up the victory.
The two teams will play tomorrow at 2:00 pm in St. Peter at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
