Three members of the Gustavus track and field team finished in the top five at the University of Minnesota Open featuring athletes from Division I, II, and III on Saturday in Minneapolis. Senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn., Watertown-Mayer) turned in the top performance finishing first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 seconds, 0.07 seconds short of meeting a NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Sophomore Laura Secor (Stillwater, Minn.), the lone female competitor for Gustavus, finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.05.
Other Gustie competitors finishing in the top five included sophomore Justin Lund (Cyrus, Minn., Morris Area), who took fourth in the 800 meters (2:07.20), and senior Dan Foley (Minneapolis, Minn./South), who finished fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:12.42. First-year sprinter Matt Dvorak (Burnsville, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) had the second fastest Division III time in the 60 meter dash at 7.22 for a 12th place finish.
The Gusties return to action at the Minnesota State University, Mankato Open on Saturday, January 31.
