Women’s Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie at St. Thomas Posted on January 16th, 2009 by

The Gustavus women’s hockey team recorded its second tie of the week skating to a 1-1 tie with MIAC rival St. Thomas at the Tommies rink in Mendota Heights on Friday night. The Gusties jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Kirsten Peterson at 17:40 of the second period, but the Tommies tied the score on a goal by Jamie Tiede just :56 seconds into the third period. Neither team could tally the gamewinner in the rest of the third period or overtime and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Gustavus out-shot St. Thomas 33-15 in the contest. The Gusties Danielle Justice turned away 14 of the 15 shots she faced, while Lauren Bradel registered 32 saves for the Tommies.

The Gusties extended their current season unbeaten streak to 11 matches dating back to their opening season loss to Adrian 2-1 in overtime. Gustavus also extended its MIAC regular season unbeaten string to 31 matches dating back to a 1-0 loss to St. Thomas in January of 2007.

Gustavus has compiled a record of 90-4-3 in MIAC regular season play over the past five-plus seasons. During that time, the Gusties are 5-4-2 against St. Thomas and 85-0-1 against the rest of the MIAC. If you include playoff games during that period, Gustavus is 98-4-3 against MIAC opponents including a mark of 9-4-2 against the Tommies.
