Men’s Hockey Knocks Off #11 UW-Stout 6-5

Junior David Martinson scored a power play goal midway through the third period to break a 5-5 tie to help the Gustavus men's hockey team defeat No. 11 UW-Stout 6-5 in Menomonie, Wis. on Friday night. Head Coach Brett Petersen's squad converted three of four power plays opportunities including Martinson's game-winning goal to improve to 2-1-0 overall. UW-Stout fell to 4-2-0 with the loss.

Football Players T.J. Ridley and Ted Aleckson Named Academic All-District V by ESPN/CoSIDA

Gustavus Adolphus football players junior T.J. Ridley (Edina, Minn.) and senior Ted Aleckson (Weston, Wis./DC Everest) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Ridley, a safety who carries a 3.96 grade point average with a major in Biology and Pre-Med, was named to the first team, while Aleckson, a defensive lineman who has a 3.79 GPA in elementary education,

The Gustavus men's and women's hockey teams are on the road on Friday, however you can catch all of the action on the internet. The women's game at Adrian College in Michigan will have live stats available beginning at 6 pm (CDT), while the men's game at UW-Stout will have live video and audio.

Women’s Hockey Looks To Challenge For Sixth Consecutive League Title in 2008-09

The Gustavus women's hockey team returns 12 letterwinners from a squad that compiled a record of 25-3 overall and won the MIAC title with a record of 18-0 in 2007-08. Coach Mike Carroll will need to replace three of the team's top four scorers, but he returns All-Conference forward Mari Gunderson and All-Conference defender Kirstin Peterson, who will lead a deep and talented team on its quest for a sixth consecutive league title.

Volleyball Defeats Saint Mary’s 3-0, Will Face St. Thomas in MIAC Playoff Championship

The Gustavus volleyball team advanced to the finals of the MIAC Tournament with a 3-0 win (27-25, 25-16, 25-17) over Saint Mary's on Thursday night in St. Peter. The Gusties will now play St. Thomas in the playoff championship match on Saturday night at 7:00 pm in St. Paul, Minn. The winner receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Swimming and Diving Programs Set To Participate In Ted Mullin Hour of Power

The Gustavus Adolphus College swimming and diving teams are taking part in the third annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay for cancer research on Thursday, Nov. 6 beginning at 4 p.m. in honor of former Carleton swimmer Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who passed away from a rare soft-tissue cancer in September 2006.

Football Looks To Stay In Playoff Chase Against St. Olaf On Saturday

Gustavus will take on St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. The Gusties come in to the game at 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC and in a four-way tie for first-place in the conference standings. The Oles enter the contest at 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the league. Last week, Gustavus defeated Bethel University 17-10 in Arden Hills behind four interceptions by the Gustie defense.

Klein, Burtzel, and Bolm Honored By MIAC Volleyball Coaches

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches released their 2008 Post-Season Awards Wednesday, November 5 and honored three Gustavus volleyball players for their play this season. Bridget Burtzel (Sr., Cold Spring, Minn.) and Emily Klein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) were named to the 18-member squad, while Klein was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.

Men’s Soccer Drops MIAC Playoff Match To Augsburg 3-0

The Gustavus men's soccer team saw its 2008 season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to Augsburg in a MIAC Playoff game in St. Peter on Tuesday afternoon. The Auggies exploded for three goals in the second half to claim their first win over the Gusties since Oct. 22, 1997. Gustavus, which finished second in the MIAC in regular season play, completed its season with a mark of 13-5-1.

Linebacker Tony Palma Named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Gustavus junior linebacker Tony Palma (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) has been named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Bethel University last Saturday. Palma played a key role in the Gusties' defensive effort in a 17-10 win over the Royals in Arden Hills, Minn. as he tallied 12 tackles with six solo stops and an interception. His interception sealed the victory as he picked off a pass at the Gustavus seven-yard line with 00:48 remaining as Bethel threatened to tie the game.
