Women’s Soccer Player Chelsea Craven Named To All-Conference Team

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Soccer Coaches recently announced the 2008 All-Conference Team and Gustavus junior forward Chelsea Craven was named to the First Team. Craven, a native of St. Cloud, Minn., led the Gusties in scoring with eight goals and three assists for 19 points.

Men’s Basketball Knocks Off Buena Vista 62-58 In Home Opener

Clutch free-throw shooting from Jesse Van Sickle and Mike DesLauriers late in the second half helped the Gustavus men's basketball team upset eighth-ranked Buena Vista University 62-58 on Tuesday night in St. Peter. The Gusties, who led 40-27 at halftime, saw their lead cut to two points with :10 remaining before DesLauriers sank a pair of free throws to clinch the win in Gustavus' home opener. Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Finishes First at Saint John’s Triangular, Matt Stewart Wins Three Events

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving squad finished first at the Saint John's Triangular on Saturday with a total of 1255.5 points. South Dakota State University finished second with 831.5 points, followed by host Saint John's in third with 665 points. The Gusties won seven of the 17 events, while also recording five second and six third place finishes.

Women’s Swimming Wins Seven Events, Defeats St. Ben’s at CSB/SJU Mini-Invitational

The Gustavus women's swimming team claimed seven event titles and finished ahead of St. Ben's at the CSB/SJU Mini-Invitational held at Saint John's University on Saturday. The Gusties scored 1418.5 points, while the Blazers finished with 1075.5 points. Gustavus, which won seven of the 17 events, were led by Carrie Gundersen (200 free, 500 free) and Anika Erickson (100 breast, 200 breast), who both won two events at the meet.

Eight Gustavus Football Players Receive All-MIAC Honors

Gustavus Adolphus College wide receiver Chad Arlt (Sr., St. Michael, Minn.), offensive lineman Jared Thelemann (Sr., Kilkenny, Minn.), safety Joe Welch (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) and linebacker Tony Palma (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) have been named to the All-MIAC first team, as voted on by the league's coaches.

Women’s Hockey Scores Three Times In Third Period To Slip By St. Olaf 4-2 In Northfield

The Gustavus women's hockey team trailed 2-1 heading into the third period against St. Olaf on Saturday night, but Mollie Carroll scored to tie the score at 2-2 at the 2:37 mark and then Melissa Mackley scored two short-handed goals in just over a minute midway through the period to allow the Gusties to escape with the 4-2 win. Emily Klatt picked up the win in goal for Gustavus.

Shorthanded Goals Doom Men’s Hockey In 3-2 Loss To St. Olaf

The Gustavus men's hockey team allowed two short-handed goals in the third period as St. Olaf defeated the Gusties 3-2 on Saturday at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn. Ole goaltender Nick Krauss kept St. Olaf in the contest, making 33 saves, until the Oles tallied two short-handed goals on consecutive Gustavus power plays to earn the series sweep. The Gusties dropped to 5-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MIAC standings, while St. Olaf moved to 6-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference.

Women’s Hockey Scores Four Times In Second Period, Claims 6-0 Win Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus women's hockey team remained undefeated in conference play with a convincing 6-0 win over St. Olaf on Friday night in New Ulm, Minn. The Gusties exploded for four goals in the second period and then added two more in the third to finish with the 6-0 win. Six different players scored for Gustavus. Danielle Justice recorded the shutout win in the nets.

Men’s Hockey Loses To St. Olaf 4-3

The Gustavus men's hockey team fell to St. Olaf 4-3 on Friday night in Northfield when Barrett Simons scored the game-winning goal with 2:06 remaining in the contest. The Gusties held a 2-0 lead midway through the first period, but the Oles scored the next three goals before Eric Bigham tied the score at 3-3 in the third period.
