The Gustavus women’s hockey team remained undefeated in conference play with a convincing 6-0 win over St. Olaf on Friday night in New Ulm, Minn. The Gusties exploded for four goals in the second period and then added two more in the third to finish with the 6-0 win. Six different players scored for Gustavus. Danielle Justice recorded the shutout win in the nets. The Gusties improve to 4-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play.

Gustavus came out firing on all cylinders in the first period, however the Oles played a very defensive style and held the Gusties scoreless. Gustavus held a 22-1 advantage in shots.

In the second period, Allie Schwab gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead just :10 seconds after the two teams dropped the puck. Later the the period, Gustavus would explode for three goals in a three minute period as Lynn Hillen scored at 6:30 to make the score 2-0, Gracie Olson scored her first collegiate goal at 8:44 to extend the lead to 3-0, and then Christine Wicker scored at 9:37 to push the lead to 4-0. The Gusties took their 4-0 lead into the locker room at the end of the second period. Gustavus out-shot the Oles 27-4 in the period.

St. Olaf held the Gusties scoreless through the first half of the third period, but Kathryn DelZoppo scored her first collegiate goal at the 11:03 mark to make the score 5-0. Jessie Doig closed out the scoring with a goal at 15:04.

The Gusties fired 67 shots on net in the game and St. Olaf goaltender Erin McNamara recorded 61 saves. Gustavus goaltender Danielle Justice improved to 2-1-0 on the season and recorded her first career shutout. She made seven saves including one big save on a St. Olaf breakaway midway through the second period.

Gustavus will travel to Northfield on Saturday to conclude the series. Gametime is set for 7 pm.
