The Gustavus women’s hockey team got a goal by Jessie Doig five minutes into the third period which allowed them to slip past a defensive Bethel Royal squad by the score of 1-0. The Gusties outshot the Royals 44-9 in the game, including an 18-1 advantage in the third period. Mari Gunderson was credited with the assist on Doig’s game-winning goal. Gustavus is now 6-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the MIAC.

Emily Klatt stayed perfect in goal for the season as she made nine saves and improved her record to 4-0-0 overall.

The Royals managed to do something that only one other team in the history of MIAC play had done to a Gustavus women’s hockey team and that was hold them to two goals in a regular season weekend series. Saint Mary’s accomplished that feat winning two games by the score of 2-1 back in the 1999-2000 series. Bethel goaltender Beth Spurrier frustrated the Gusties both nights as she recorded 30 saves on Friday and 43 on Saturday afternoon.

The Gusties will now have almost a month off until their next game which will be January 2, 2009 against #4 Amherst College at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter.
