Gustavus Adolphus senior volleyball player Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./ROCORI) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Third Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Burtzel, a setter, carries a 3.73 grade point average with a major in management. A total of four MIAC players were recognized on either the first, second, or third team.

Burtzel was named to the 2008 All-MIAC Volleyball Team as she finished second in league play at 10.71 assists per set. She also ranks 16th among all Division III setters at 10.32 assists per set. Burtzel has compiled 1,132 assists this season and 322 digs. She is second on the program’s all-time digs list with 1,347 digs and third on the career assist list with 3,682.

The 17th-ranked Gusties (26-4 overall) will face UW-Eau Claire in the first round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn. It is their first national appearance since 1986.

Burtzel is the daughter of Randy and Jeanne Burtzel of Cold Spring and a 2005 graduate of ROCORI High School.
