Women’s Soccer Ends Season With 3-1 Loss At St. Thomas Posted on November 1st, 2008 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team ended its 2008 season with a 3-1 loss to the Tommies from the University of St. Thomas on Saturday. Senior Callie Christensen put the Gusties up 1-0 in the 5th minute, but the Tommies came back with three unanswered goals. Gustavus ends the season with a record of 7-8-2 and 4-5-2 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas ends its season as undefeated Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions with a 14-0-4 record (9-0-2 in the MIAC).

Christensen scored her third goal of the season just 4:29 into the contest to give the Gusties an early 1-0 lead. However, Erin Sprangers tied the match at one with her 12th goal of the season with only 2:43 to play in the first half with assists from Cailee Osterman and Tess Hanson. The Tommies’ Kirsten Moran broke the tie with her fifth goal of the season early in the second half and Stephanie Paasch added an insurance goal in the 76th minute for St. Thomas.

The Tommies out shot the Gusties by a 10-3 margin and held an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. Senior Ashley Ohlson played in goal for Gustavus and recorded three saves, while Amanda Domeier got the win in goal for St. Thomas making one save.
