Strong net play propelled the Gustauvs volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) victory over St. Catherine in St. Paul on Wednesday night. Angela Ahrendt (Fy., Shoreview, Minn.) and Britta Bolm (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) teamed up for seven blocks, as head coach Kari Eckheart’s squad outblocked the Wildcats 10-3. Gustavus moved to 21-3 overall and 5-2 in league, while St. Catherine dropped to 10-12 overall and 1-6 in the MIAC.
Four Gustavus hitters reached double-figure kills including Olivia Warren (Fy., Goodhue, Minn.) at 15, Meghan Gehring (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis.) at 13, and Nicki Ainsworth (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Ahrendt at 11 each. Bridget Burtzel (Sr., Cold Spring, Minn.) posted her 14th double-double of the season with 43 assists and 11 digs. Emily Klein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) compiled a match-high 28 digs. St. Catherine was led by Megan Ahlbrecht and Maria Hoffman with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Whitney Sparby had 34 assists, while Callie Teigen finished with 21 digs.
Gustavus will return to action against Saint Benedict on Wednesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. in St. Peter.
