The Gustavus women’s golf team won its second tournament title of the fall season with a convincing first place finish at the 17-team Wartburg Invitational which was played at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa. The Gusties, who fired a team total of 324-309–633, were led by Kimbra Kosak who finished second individually at 78-78–156. The Gustavus second team finished ninth with a total of 352-335–687.
Gustavus, which led by two shots over host Wartburg at the end of the first day, separated itself from the field on the second day with a 309 total that was 16 shots better than second place Illinois Wesleyan’s 325. The Gusties, who are ranked #3 in the latest National Golf Coaches Association poll, finished the tournament 23 strokes ahead of #4 Illinois Wesleyan (331-325–656), 24 strokes ahead of #12 Wartburg (326-331–657), and 29 strokes better than #7 St. Thomas (335-327–662).
Four players from the Gustavus Gold squad placed in the top ten including Kosak, who placed second, Katie Schenfeld, who tied for fifth (80-77–157), Kali Griggs, who tied for seventh at 83-75–158), and Taylor Drenttel, who tied for 10th (83-79–162). The fifth golfer, Amanda Woodhull finished in 33rd place at 85-86–171.
The Gustavus Black team was led by Lauren Runsvold who tied for 10th at 81-81–162. Others scoring included Annie Jackson (92-82–174, 40th tie), Amanda Johnson (90-85–175, 44th), Rikka Holiday (89-87–176, 45th tie), and Nicole Tetrault (92-89–181, 53rd tie).
The Gusties will play in the Midwest Classic hosted by Carleton College next Saturday and Sunday at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake.
