The Gustavus women’s soccer team allowed two first half goals in a 3-1 loss at UW-Stevens Point on Friday afternoon. The loss marks the first defeat of the 2008 season for the Gusties. The Pointers controlled played for the majority of the match outshooting Gustavus 37-5. Sophomore forward Ashley Anderson scored the only goal for the Gusties in the 54th minute.
UW-Stevens Point got out to an early 1-0 lead as Emily Walsh scored 16:10 into the game beating Gustavus sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Bayer. Meghan Mausbach and Jackie Spees were credited with the assists. The Pointers took a 2-0 advantage after Kaylee Weise scored the first of her two goals on the night with only 51 seconds remaining in the first half.
Anderson got the Gusties back into the game with an unassisted goal at 53:59. That was the closest Gustavus came as the Pointers iced the game in the 89th minute with Weise’s second goal of the contest.
Bayer was credited with 14 saves for Gustavus while Pam Luckow, the UW-Stevens Point keeper, recorded three saves.
Gustavus, now 1-1-0 on the season, will be on the road again for its next match at Luther College on Wednesday, September 10 at 7 pm.
