Women’s Track and Field Respond To Warm Weather With Strong Performances at Hamline

The Gustavus women’s track and field team finally got a chance to perform in warm weather on Sunday at the Meet of the Unsaintly at Hamline in St. Paul. The team turned in eight top four performances during the day including four first place finishes. Senior pole vaulter Shanna Dawson led the way as she finished first in the pole vault at a school record height of 12 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

Joining Dawson with strong performances in the field events was senior Sari Lindeman who won the triple jump with an effort of 36 feet, 2 1/2 inches and the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 4 inches. Sam Broderius also had a big day as she finished third in the shot put at 43 feet, 1/4 inch, sixth in the discus in 138 feet, 3 inches.

In the running events, senior Laura Edlund finished first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:10.4. Edlund’s time is the fastest in the MIAC this spring. Megan Lundgren turned in a second place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.11, while Abby Karl finished fourth in the 400 meters (1:01.01) and Laura Secor placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.55). The 4×100 meter relay team also picked up a first place finish with a time of 50.31.

The Gusties will wrap up their regular season at the MIAC Championships this Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
