The Gustavus softball team remained undefeated during its spring break trip in Tucson, Ariz. after picking up a 10-0 five-inning win over Kalamazoo and a 3-2 win over Luther on Tuesday. Betsy Collins and Erin Truebenbach combined to throw a no-hitter against the Hornets in the day’s first game, while Emily Klein drove in two runs against the Norse. The Golden Gusties, who won their sixth straight game, improved to 8-2 overall.

Betsy Collins held Kalamazoo hitless for four innings, while Erin Truebenbach preserved the no-hitter in the fifth inning of the 10-0 contest. Rachael Click continued to hit well from the plate as she went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a home run. Emily Klein and Emily Wendorff each went 2-for-3.

Gustavus avenged last year’s NCAA tournament loss to Luther by defeating the Norse 3-2 in the second game of the day. The Gusties jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Klein delivered a two-RBI double. Klein then stole third base and later scored the third run after an overthrow by the catcher. Gustavus held off a late rally by Luther as the Norse scored twice in the fifth inning. The Gusties earned the victory, despite having two runners called out at the plate.

The Gusties have an off-day on Wednesday before closing out their trip to Tucson, Ariz. with single games against Lawrence University and the University of Chicago on Thursday.
