Men’s Swimming and Diving Finishes 12th At NCAA Championships

The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team finished in 12th place with 106 points after the final day of the NCAA Championships hosted by The College of Wooster. The Gusties tallied 100 points for the third consecutive year. Kenyon College won its 30th consecutive national championship with 635 points. Johns Hopkins University finished second with 330 points.

Skylar and Whitaker Davis earned points for Gustavus in the 1650-yard freestyle as Skylar finished seventh with a time of 15:43.69 and Whitaker finished 11th with a time of 15:53.50.

Three swimmers compiled points for the Gusties in the 200-yard butterfly as Ben Hanson, Connor Ziegler, and Matt Stewart finished 11th, 13th, and 14th respectively. Hanson clocked a time of 1:51.49, while Ziegler edged out Stewart by one-hundredth of a second for 13th with a time of 1:51.63.

The 400-yard freestyle team of Stewart, Hanson, Skylar Davis, and Tyler Wakefield concluded the championships with a 13th-place finish in 3:05.64.

Skylar Davis earned All-America honors by virtue of finishing in the top eight at the national meet, while Whitaker Davis, Hanson, Ziegler, and Stewart and the 400-yard freestyle team earned honorable mention All-America recognition.
