The Gustavus women’s tennis team was busy at the Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday as the Gusties defeated Concordia 9-0, Winona State University 8-1, and Augustana (SD) 8-1. Gustavus only dropped four sets over the course of the three dual matches as its overall record improved to 3-1.
In the first dual meet of the day, Gustavus did not lose a set to the Concordia Cobbers in a 9-0 win. Julie Bardenwerper and Christine Reimer edged out Lyndsi Tufte and Amy Freeman 9-8, 1-0 in #2 doubles, while Erica Dobson and Brittany Templin shutout Ashley Leister and Mollie Miller 8-0 at #1 doubles. Haley Prittinen and Lisa Gruensien completed the doubles sweep by defeating Kelsey Schendel and Melanie Gail 8-1.
The tightest singles match took place at the #1 position between Gustavus’ Jenni White and Concordia’s Ashley Leister as White came out on top 6-2, 6-3. Other Gustavus victories came from Sierra Krebsbach (#2), Sam Frank (#3), Ali O’Neal (#4), Laura Arnebeck (#5), and Jenny Arnfelt (#6).
The Gusties’ second win of the day came in an 8-1 decision over Winona State University. The lone blemish in the match came at #3 doubles as Kristina Kelly and Alison Utke fell 8-4 to Courtney Zinter and Kaycee Moore. The doubles tandems of White and Krebsbach and Frank and O’Neal posted 8-2 and 8-3 wins at #1 and #2 doubles, respectively.
Jenny Arnfelt was involved in the closest singles match at the #4 position against Ericka Richae, but prevailed 6-4, 6-2. The other Gustie wins came from Jenni White (#1), Sierra Krebsbach (#2), Laura Arnebeck (#3), Erica Dobson (#5), and Marianne Barau (#6).
Gustavus closed out the day with a 8-1 win over Augustana (SD) with a sweep of doubles matches and five wins in singles. Laura Arnebeck and Erica Dobson won the tightest doubles match at the #2 position in a 8-6 decision over Emily Johnson and Danielle Gilbert. Ali O’Neal battled Emily Gaster at #1 singles as O’Neal pulled out the 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 victory for Gustavus. Jenny Arnfelt pushed Brittany Gaster to the superbreaker at #2 singles, but was unable to complete the comback as Gaster prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. Other Gustavus victories came from Laura Arnebeck (#3), Brittany Templin (#4), Christine Reimer (#5), and Julie Bardenwerper (#6).
