Men’s Indoor Track and Field Opens Season With Solid Outing At Minnesota State, Mankato Open

The Gustavus men’s track and field team opened its indoor season last Saturday at the MSU Open hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Chris deLaubenfels (Sr., Mount Vernon, Iowa) had a big day for the Gusties as he won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:46.0 and finished second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:03.68. deLaubenfels’ performances came against a strong field of runners from both Division II and Division III schools.

In other running events, Matt Leeb (St. Peter, Minn.) placed 13th in the 400 meters (52.02) and 21st in the 200 meters (23.78), while freshman Colby Citrowski (Canby, Minn.) finished 20th in the 400 meters (53.84), and senior Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn.) placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.56).

In the field events, senior Drew Hood (Mankato, Minn.) placed seventh in the pole vault (14′ 1.75″) and freshman Jake Peymann (Fairmont, Minn.) finished 11th in the high jump (5′ 10.75″). In the throws, sophomore Brian Anderson (Bloomington, Minn.) placed 10th in the shot put (44′ 5.25″) and 22nd in the weight throw (42′ 11.75″).

The Gusties will take part in another meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato this Saturday, February 9.
