The Gustavus women’s track and field team opened its indoor season on Saturday by taking part in the MSU Open hosted by Minnesota State University. Kaelene Lundstrom (So., Bird Island, Minn.) got the Gusties off to a great start as she finished second in the heptathlon with a school record total of 3,203 points. First year Janey Helland (Mapleton, Minn.) made her first collegiate meet one to remember as she finished sixth in the long jump with a school record leap of 17 feet 5 1/2 inches.
First year Megan Lundgren (Mankato, Minn.) contributed two strong performances in the middle distances as she placed third in the 800 meters (2:21.05) and tenth in the 400 meter dash (1:00.49). In the long distances, senior Jill Fagerstrom (Rosemount, Minn.) a sixth place finish in the 3,000 meters (11:18.88) and an eighth place in the 5,000 meters (19:30.96).
In the field events, Gustavus were paced by senior Sari Lindeman (Cannon Falls, Minn.) who finished seventh in the triple jump (34′ 11″) and Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) who placed ninth in the shot put (40′ 3/4″).
