In perfect weather conditions the Gustavus women’s cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams with 133 points at the MIAC Cross Country Championships Saturday in St. Paul. St. Thomas finished in first place with 74 points, two points ahead of second-place Carleton. Laura Edlund (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) improved on her 29th-place finish last year by placing sixth in a time of 22:57 to earn all-conference honors.
Sarah Bernhardson (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned her second consecutive all-conference honor with a 14th-place finish in 23:15 after finishing seventh last year. Megan Lundgren (Fy., Mankato, Minn.) was the only other Gustavus runner to finish in the top 25 with a time of 23:30 for 21st-place. Kate Reins (Fy., Osseo, Minn.) and Kelly Chaudoin (Jr., Ely, Minn.) were the fourth and fifth runners for the Gusties completing the race in 24:14 for 43rd-place and in 24:41 for 59th-place, respectively. Chaudoin turned in the largest improvement from last year’s meet when she placed 84th.
Coach Friedrich’s squad will compete at NCAA Central Regional Meet in Northfield, Minn. Saturday, October 6.
