Women’s Soccer Edged by Augsburg 1-0 in Minneapolis Posted on October 9th, 2007 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team saw its two-game win streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Augsburg on Tuesday night. The Gusties, who had scored nine goals in their last two games, were shut out by Augsburg goaltender Maggie DeGroot. The Auggies scored the lone goal of the game in the 18th minute. Gustavus is now 2-5-0 in MIAC play and four of those losses are by one goal.

A fierce wind controlled play throughout the match. Augsburg had the benefit of the wind in the first half and out-shot Gustavus 11-6. The Auggies were able to score with the wind and that turned out to be the difference. In the second half, Gustavus had the benefit of the wind and out-shot Augsburg 16-4, however the Gusties were not able to score the equalizer and suffered the disappointing 1-0 loss.

Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made nine saves in 90 minutes of play. Maggie DeGroot made eight saves in 90 minutes of play for Augsburg.

The Gusties, who are now 7-6-0 overall and 2-5-0 in MIAC play, will return home to host Bethel at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
