Women’s Golf Opens 2007 Season With Third Place Finish at UW-Eau Claire Invitational

The Gustavus women's golf team opened its 2007 season with a third place finish at the 18-team UW-Eau Claire Invitational. The tournament was played at Mill Run Golf Course on Saturday and Wild Ridge Golf Course on Sunday. St. Thomas won the tournament with a score of 326-328--654, while UW-Stevens Point finished second at 328-337--665, and the Gusties were third at 327-340--667. Sophomore Kali Griggs finished fifth individually to lead Gustavus. She posted a 36-hole total of 80-81--161.

Gustavus Volleyball Wins UW-Eau Claire Tournament, First 4-0 Start Since 1987

The Gustavus volleyball took first place at the Blugold Tournament in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by defeating UM-Morris and UW-River Falls 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Senior outside hitter Jennifer Thelemann (Le Sueur, Minn.) and junior setter Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) were named to the eight-member all-tournament team.

Offense Propels Men’s Soccer to 4-0 Win Over Grinnell

Senior forward Mike Butterworth exploded for four goals (two in each half) to lead Gustavus to a 4-0 win over Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday afternoon. Butterworth's scoring is all the Gusties would need as Coach Larry Zelenz's crew outshot the Pioneers 32-7 and first year goaltender Luke Strom made two saves to post his first career shutout.
