The Golden Gustie women’s cross country team turned in a seventh-place finish with 198 points at the 25 team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday morning. First-place team UW-Eau Claire had three of the top 11 finishers to win with 97 points. Laura Edlund (Forest Lake, Minn.) again paced Gustavus with a 16th-place finish in 23:22 for a new personal record.
First-year runners made big contributions in the effort for Coach Friedrich’s squad. Megan Lundgren (Mankato, Minn.) finished in 23:34 to earn 18th-place. Kate Reins (Osseo, Minn.) turned in a time of 24:02 to get 39th-place. Seniors Sarah Willis (Willmar, Minn.) and Sarah Bernhardson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) rounded out the top five with times of 24:21 for 59th-place and 24:32 for 66th-place, respectively. Willis also turned in a personal record Saturday.
St. Olaf and Macalester were the only two MIAC schools to finished ahead of Gustavus. The Gusties will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul September 29.
