Women’s Swimming Team Moves Up To 22nd Place After Second Day of NCAA Championships Posted on March 9th, 2007 by

The Gustavus women’s swimming team scored 12 points on Friday behind the finishes of the 200 medley relay team which placed 12th and Sarah Koepp who placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke. As a result, the Gusties moved up nine places from 31st to 22nd with one day remaining at the NCAA Championships which are taking place at the University of Houston.

The day started with the 200 medley relay team of Christi O’Connor, Sarah Koepp, Yoshi Ludwig, and Janae Piehl placing 15th in the prelims with a time of 1:50.18. The team came in seeded fifth with a qualifying time of 1:47.84. Later on in the morning, first year Sarah Koepp, earned a spot in the consolation finals as she placed 16th in a time of 1:06.51. Koepp was seeded 11th with a qualifying time of 1:06.40.

In the evening, the 200 medley relay team moved up three spots to 12th place (scoring 10 points) with a time of 1:49.32. Sarah Koepp also moved up as she placed 15th (scoring two points) with a time of 1:06.99.

The Gusties will hope to move further up the standings on Saturday, the final day of the championship meet. Gustavus swimmers participating on Saturday include Sarah Koepp in the 200 breaststroke, Carrie Gundersen in the 1650 freestyle, and the 400 free relay team.
