Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey player Andrea Peterson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 25, 2007. Peterson, a senior captain, scored a goal and two assists in last weekend’s sweep of the College of St. Catherine (7-2; 5-1), becoming the MIAC’s all-time leading scorer (all games) in the process.

In the series opener Feb. 22 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Peterson scored a power-play goal at the 9:19 mark of the third period to tie the mark of 181 held by Sarah Moe (Gustavus/ Augsburg; 1998-2002). In the regular season finale Feb. 23 at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Peterson notched a pair of assists, including one on Kelly Crandall’s eventual game-winner in the first period, to move ahead of Moe. Peterson now has 106 career assists, tied for third in Division III history during the NCAA era (since 2001-02).

Peterson, a health/physical education major, is the daughter of Art and Perry Peterson of White Bear Lake and a 2003 graduate of White Bear Area High School.

Gustavus, currently 23-2-0 overall, captured its sixth league crown (fifth outright) after finishing with a 17-1-0 mark in league play. The Gusties will play the winner of Tuesday’s Saint Mary’s-Hamline quarterfinal matchup in a MIAC Playoff semifinal Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter.
