The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team posted the top individual score of three of four apparatus en route to a 179.150-176.450 dual victory at UW-Eau Claire Friday night. Laura Hansen (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won the uneven bars (9.125), Emily Pickford (So., Minnetonka, Minn./Perpich Center for Arts Education) and Nicole Gergen (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) tied for the win on the balance beam (9.050), and Christine Askham (So., Arvada, Colo./West) won the floor exercise (9.525, season-high).
The Blugolds recorded four of the top six marks on the vault to top the Gusties 45.800-45.250. Askham posted the top Gustavus score on the vault with a 9.200, finishing second behind UWEC’s Amber Dorholt (9.375). Danielle Berg (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn./Technical) tied for fifth place with a 9.100, while Pickford and Christina Sorenson (Fy., Worthington, Minn.) each posted scores of 9.075 to tie for seventh. Aryn Bell (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) added an 8.800, while Brittany Moore (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./St. Louis Park) posted an 8.650 for the Gusties. The 179.150 marked a season-best team score for Gustavus, now 2-2 in duals.
The Gusties took the uneven bars title 43.225-41.700 in large part to Hansen’s 9.125, the only score over 8.800. Askham and Audrey Schenewerk (Sr., Lawrence, Kan./Baldwin) tied for third with scores of 8.750, while Pickford tied for sixth with an 8.600. Laurel Urquhart (Fy., Great Falls, Mont.) and Stephanie Lovik (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Century) tied for ninth with matching scores of 8.000.
Gustavus took the top three positions in the vault, outscoring UW-Eau Claire 44.075-43.650 on the apparatus. Behind Pickford and Gergen, Hansen placed third with a 9.025, Urquhart was eighth with an 8.500, Askham tied for ninth with an 8.450, and Jaime Tsurusaki (So., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) placed 11th with an 8.075.
Askham led five Gusties with scores of over 9.225 as Gustavus posted a season-high team score of 46.600 on the floor exercise. Gergen and Kelsie Droogsma (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) tied for third with scores of 9.300, Jessica Dolan (So., Milroy, Minn./Marshall) placed sixth with a 9.250 and Lovik was seventh with a 9.225. Dana Ryerson (Sr., Ames, Iowa/Ballard) rounded out the Gustie scoring with an 8.450.
Askham was Gustavus’ lone competitor in the all-around competition, placing second with a cumulative score of 35.925.
Gustavus will travel to UW-Oshkosh in a dual Saturday, Feb. 24, before wrapping up the regular season with a dual at Winona State on March 2.
