The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team fell to 1-1 in duals this season following a 174.150-169.775 loss to defending NCGA champion UW-La Crosse Friday night at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio in St. Peter.
Helped by 9.175 from Brittany Moore (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), the Gusties posted their best event score of the night with a 44.400 in the vault. Also competing in the vault were Jenny Berglund (8.85), Christine Askham (8.825), Aryn Bell (8.80), Emily Pickford (8.75), and Christina Sorenson (8.20). Jackie Schellinger of UW-La Crosse had the evening’s best score on the vault with a 9.30 as the Eagles produced six scores of 8.950 and over.
On the bars, UW-L’s Ann Fitzsimmons was the event champion with an 8.95. Askham and Laura Hansen of Gustavus finished tied for second with scores of 8.60. Laurel Urquhart (8.20), Audrey Schenewerk (8.125), Pickford (7.925), and Amanda Sati (6.70) also posted scores for the Gusties.
Moving to the balance beam, Fitzsimmons picked up her second event win with a 9.225 as the Eagles took the top four positions. Laura Hansen posted the best Gustavus score with a fifth-place mark of 8.75. Also recording scores for the Gusties were Pickford (8.625), Nicole Gergen (8.575), Kelsie Droogsma (8.475), Urquhart (8.275) and Dana Ryerson (7.45).
Gustavus finished the meet on the floor exercise led by Gergen’s runner-up score of 8.95. UW-L’s Gabi Hooper won the event with a score of 9.225. Moore (8.50), Stephanie Lovik (8.425), Askham (7.70), Berglund (7.65), and Droogsma (7.65).
The Gusties travel to Menomonie, Wis., next Friday to compete in the Zuerlein Invitational before hosting Hamline on Friday, Feb. 2 in the final home meet of the season.
