Keseley’s Goal in Overtime Gives Men’s Hockey Team 4-3 Win at Hamline

Senior Jon Keseley scored a power play goal :25 seconds into overtime to give Gustavus a 4-3 win against Hamline at Drake Arena. The Gusties snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-6-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in the MIAC.

Senior Jon Keseley scored a power play goal :25 seconds into overtime to give Gustavus a 4-3 win against Hamline at Drake Arena. Joe Welch and Niko Suoraniemi were credited with assists on the goal. The Gusties snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-6-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in the MIAC. The two teams will play again on Saturday night at 7:05 pm at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter.

Hamline led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Matt Buckley and Steve Festler. Kyle Rohlfs tied the score at 1-1 for Gustavus at the 17:23 mark with an assist from Matt Anders. The Pipers countered with Festler’s goal at the 19:23 mark to take the 2-1 lead into the locker room.

Gustavus tied the game at 2-2 when Cody Mosbeck scored a power play goal at 11:02 of the second period. Steven Jensen recorded the assist. Five minutes later, John Arundel gave the Gusties a 3-2 lead at the 16:31 mark. Jensen picked up his second assist of the night. Gustavus’ lead was short lived as Steve Festler scored his second goal of the night in the 17th minute (17:23) to tie the game at 3-3.

Neither team could break the tie forcing the game into overtime. A slashing penalty gave Gustavus a 6-5 advantage for the final minute of regulation and the first minute of overtime. Keseley tallied the gamewinner just :25 into the overtime.

Gustavus outshot the Pipers 41-22 in the game. Kevin Johnson picked up the win in the nets for the Gusties. He recorded 19 saves. Matt Wanvig suffered the loss in the nets for Hamline. He turned away 37 shots on the night.

Gustavus improved to 3-6-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the MIAC, while Hamline dropped to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.
