The Gustavus men’s cross country team finished eighth out of 11 teams at the MIAC Championships which were held Saturday afternoon at Como Park Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. The Gusties were led by junior Chris deLaubenfels, who placed 14th and sophomore Dan Foley, who finished 17th. Gustavus totalled 182 points and were just five points behind seventh place St. Thomas (177).
deLaubenfels turned in one of the finest performances of his career as he completed the 8,000 meter course in a time of 26:46.07. His 14th place finish earned him all-conference honors which is awarded to the top 15 finishers in the race. Foley, who has run 1-2 with deLaubenfels all season, finished three back in 17th place with a time of 26:55.32.
Others scoring for Gustavus included sophomore John Leaf, who scored in 47th place with a time of 28:03.52, senior Alex Zupan, who scored in 51st place with a time of 28:10.07, and freshman John Kennedy, who scored in 53rd place with a time of 28:19.67.
The Gusties matched their eighth place finish from a year ago.
