The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer capped off its 2006 season with a 2-0 win over Bethel University on Saturday in Arden Hills. Seniors Liz Peterson (Stillwater, Minn.) and Amy Larson (Bloomington, Minn.) each scored a goal in their final collegiate games.
Peterson gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead in the 77th minute when she put a shot past Bethel netminder Charli Sorenson and into the back of the net. Rachel Iblings (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) was credited with the assist. Larson iced the game with a goal just inside the 89th minute off an assist from Christy Tupy (So., Eagan, Minn.).
The Gusties posted 11 shots in each half to outshoot the Royals 22-8 and held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Jenna Iaizzo (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) led Gustavus with eight shots, while Larson and Becca Hagen (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) added four and three, respectively. Kristin Kishaba took three shots to lead the Royals, who finish their season at 7-8-3 overall, 3-6-2 in the MIAC.
Gustavus sophomore Ashley Ohlson (Anchorage, Alaska) made a pair of saves in net to pick up the win.
Larson finishes her career with 56 points on 21 goals and 14 assists, ranking tenth all-time in points and tied for seventh all-time in assists at Gustavus.
The Gusties finish the year on a three-game winning streak and end up at 8-8-2 overall, 5-4-2 in the MIAC.
