The Gustavus women’s cross country team finished fourth at the MIAC Cross Country Championships held on Saturday afternoon at Como Park Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. The Gusties were led by Hailey Harren, who won her second consecutive individual title and Sara Bernhardson, who placed seventh.
Harren took the lead in the first half-mile and ran away from the pack on her way to claiming her second consecutive title in a time of 21:51.57. She broke the 6,000 meter course record that she set last year by two seconds (21:53.8) and became the first cross country runner from Gustavus to ever win two MIAC individual titles.
Joining Harren in the top ten was teammate Sarah Bernhardson, who placed seventh in time of 23:43.97. Bernhardson made a significant leap from last year when she placed 46th with a time of 24:52.55 and earned all-conference honors for the first time in her career.
