The Gustavus volleyball team lost to Coe College 3-1 and then defeated Luther College 3-0 on Friday. The Gusties are taking part in the Border Battle Tournament being hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the loss to Coe, the Gusties saw their eight-match win streak come to an end. The tournament will conclude with two matches on Saturday.
Against 23rd ranked Coe, the Gusties won game one 30-26, but then the Kohawks rallied to win three straight 30-18, 30-22, 30-20.
Coach Kari Eckheart’s squad rallied to win the second match of the day against Luther (30-26, 30-27, 30-27). It was the second win of the season for the Gusties over the Norse having defeated them in the Sugarloaf Classic on Sept. 8.
Gustavus will close out the Border Battle Tournament with matches on Saturday against Simpson at 11 am and Dubuque at 3 pm.
The Border Battle Tournament features four teams from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (Coe, Simpson, Luther, Dubuque) against four teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (Gustavus, Macalester, Bethel, St. Olaf).
