Men’s Soccer Defeats Macalester 1-0 in St. Paul Posted on October 6th, 2006 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team picked up a very important 1-0 win over Macalester College in St. Paul on Friday night. Alex Groth (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) scored the game-winner in the 55th minute for the Gusties. Gustavus improves to 9-1-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the MIAC, while Macalester falls to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the MIAC.

Gustavus has now outscored its opponents 19-4 in 11 games this season, while shutting its opponents out seven times. Tyler Garry (Sr., Sioux Falls, So. Dak.) was the winning goalkeeper for Gustavus, he recorded his sixth shutout of the season and 16th of his career. The Gusties are currently alone in first place with a record of 5-1-0 (10 points). Saint John’s is in second place at 4-1-0 (8 points).

Gustavus will have the weekend off before playing another very important MIAC contest against St. Thomas on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 4 pm in St. Peter.
