The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team placed a pair of golfers in the top ten after the first day of the Twin Cities Classic at Elk River Country Club in Elk River, Minn. The Gusties, who trail Central by six strokes, fired a first-round 295 and sit one shot ahead of MIAC Champion Saint John’s.
Jordan Hawkinson (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) is tied for third after a first-round 71, while first-year Ricky Copeland (Mahtomedi, Minn.) is in a group of nine golfers tied for seventh after a 73. Arie DeGrio (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), playing as an individual, is tied for 16th with a 74, followed by Mark Stuckey (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) with a 75 (tie-19th). Erik Tone (Sr., Willmar, Minn.), runner-up at last weekend’s MIAC Championships is in a large mass at 4-over-par 76, while Eric Harris (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) fired an 83.
The tournament continues with 18 holes at the Links at Northfork on Sunday and concludes with 18 holes at Nazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska on Monday.
