Klein Named MIAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Gustavus sophomore libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Setter/Libero of the Week by the MIAC volleyball coaches. Klein averaged 7.38 digs per game as the Gusties went 3-0 on the week including an important 3-2 win over #16 Carleton.

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) helped lead the Gusties to a 3-0 record last week including a five-game win over #16 Carleton. As the primary passer in all serve receive rotations, Klein only had three receiving errors in three matches. Klein also tallied 38 digs vs Carleton, 32 digs vs Augsburg and 26 digs vs St. Catherine for an average of 7.38 digs per game. Stats for the Week: 3 matches, 3 wins, 13 games, 8 assists, 3 service aces, 3 receiving errors, 96 digs (7.38 digs/game).

The Gusties, who are 12-3 overall, are 4-0 in league play for the first time since 1991. Coach Kari Eckheart’s squad has posted conference wins over Hamline 3-0, Carleton 3-2, Augsburg 3-1, and St. Kate’s 3-1. This week, the team will host Bethel on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm.
