Senior Lauren Hom (Stevens Point, Wis.) and first year Sierra Krebsbach (North Oaks, Minn.) lost a heartbreaking match in the finals of the doubles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Tournament hosted by Luther College. Hom and Krebsbach, who were seeded second, lost to top-seeded Amanda Santa Romana and Elicza Buys of Carthage 9-8 (7-5 in the tiebreaker). Hom and Krebsbach finished the fall season with a record of 8-2.
Hom was attempting to win the ITA Midwest Region doubles title for the second consecutive year after winning last year with partner Marla Menne. Hom and Menne went on to win the 2005 ITA Small College national doubles title.
In the singles draw, Hom advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Region Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Stevens Point, Wis. native lost to eventual tournament champion Molly Fiala of Coe 5-7, 4-6 in the semifinals. Fiala, the #2 seed, went on to defeat Amanda Santa Romana of Carthage 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in the championship match. Hom finished the fall season with a mark of 5-2.
