Senior Lauren Hom (Stevens Point, Wis.) advanced to the singles semifinals and the doubles final with partner Sierra Krebsbach (Fy., North Oaks, Minn.) at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament being played at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The two singles semifinal matches and the doubles championship match will be played on Sunday.

Hom picked up two wins on the day as she defeated Gina Klein of Carthage 6-1, 6-0 in the third round and Angie Riedel of UW-La Crosse 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Hom, who is seeded third, will face #2 seed Molly Fiala of Coe in her semifinal match.

In doubles play, Hom and Krebsbach, who are seeded second, defeated Minkowski and Klein of Carthage 8-3 in the first round and then followed with an 8-4 win over Wrobel and Kampa of St. Ben’s in the second round. The duo finished the day with an impressive 8-1 win over Riedel and Tellefsen of UW-La Crosse in the quarterfinals.

In other doubles action, Hannah Frericks (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) and Darcy Haubrick (Sr., Elk River, Minn.), who were seeded fourth, won their first round match against Ward and Gruska of St. Ben’s 8-5, and their second round match against Getzendanner and Clemens of Carleton, 8-0. The duo was surprised in the quarterfinals as they fell to unseeded Benn and Fekete of UW-La Crosse 9-7.

The winners of the ITA Midwest Regional singles and doubles tournaments will qualify for the ITA Small College National Championships which will take place at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida on Oct. 12-15.
