The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team moved its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 1-2-1 and knocked the College of Saint Benedict from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in St. Joseph on Saturday. First-year Becca Hagen (Minneapolis, Minn. / South) scored the game’s lone goal with a shot in the second half that found the top corner of the goal. The goal was unassisted.

Saint Ben’s outshot Gustavus 11-8, including 7-3 in the first half, but the Blazers were unable to stick the ball past Gustie keeper Ashley Ohlson (So., Anchorage, Alaska / Dimond), who made nine saves. CSB’s Shannon Conk made four saves, but took the loss. Blazer forward Tina Lisk led all players with six shots, including five on goal, while Gustavus’ Jenna Iaizzo (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) was credited with five shots of her own.

The Gusties are now 3-4-1 overall and will travel to Winona on Tuesday to face Saint Mary’s University. Saint Ben’s is now 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the MIAC and will step out of conference Sunday to host UW-Oshkosh, before hosting St. Kate’s on Wednesday afternoon.
