The Gustavus women’s cross country team finished 11th out of 32 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities on the Les Bolstad Golf Course. Hailey Harren (Sr., Cold Spring, Minn.) led the way for the Gusties as she finished first in a time of 22:07.
The Gusties, who competed without #2 runner Sarah Bernhardson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.), who has an injured ankle, turned in a solid performance against a very strong field. The Griak Invitational is the largest regular season meet of the year for Gustavus.
Harren continued to perform at a very high level as she finished a full minute ahead of the second place runner with a time of 22:07. There were a total of 404 runners in the field. The Griak Invitational was the only race that Harren did not win last season. Harren has now finished first in all three races this season and nine of the last 10 races that she has competed in dating back to the beginning of the 2005 season.
Others scoring for Gustavus included Laura Edlund (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) (36th) in a time of 24:40, Val Berquam (Kenyon, Minn.) (60th) in a time of 25:08, Heidi Bulfer (Sr., Fairmont, Minn.) (94th) in a time of 25:49, and Sarah Willis (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) (111th) in a time of 26:10.
