Aaron Kahl, who has served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Gustavus for the past five years, has been named the new assistant men’s basketball coach for the Gusties. Kahl replaces David Flom, who accepted the head basketball coaching position at Eden Prairie High School.

During his five years with the women’s program, Kahl helped guide the Gusties to an overall record of 99-34 (.744), the program’s first MIAC championship, and a national tournament appearance in 2002-03 during his five years with the program.

Kahl, a 2000 graduate of Gustavus, played two seasons of basketball for current head coach Mark Hanson before joining the men’s basketball coaching staff as a student assistant. During Kahl’s previous coaching stint with the men’s team, the Gusties won an MIAC playoff title and made two trips to the NCAA National Tournament.

In addition to his coaching duties, Kahl serves as the assistant intramural director at Gustavus. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in sport administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Kahl resides in St. Peter with his wife Amy, and thei children Tyler and Makenna.
