Madson, Click Named MIAC Players of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior baseball player Aaron Madson (North Mankato, Minn.) and first-year softball player Rachael Click (Rochester, Minn.) have been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week in their respective sports for the week ending April 23, 2006.

Madson, a third baseman, hit .571 with 12 hits, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored and three walks in six games last week. Madson opened the week going 4-for-7 with two runs scored, a double and a triple in a split at Concordia on Wednesday. He followed that up with a 5-for-8 performance Saturday against Saint Mary’s, including a 4-for-4 effort with four runs scored, four runs batted in and two home runs in Gustavus’ 17-11 game two win. Madson capped off the weekend going 3-for-6 in a non-conference doubleheader against Wartburg, scoring three times and driving in three. Madson committed only one error in the field in ten chances at third base during the week and posted a 1.095 slugging percentage.

Click, a shortstop, hit .500 (9-for-18) while scoring 11 runs and driving in eight to help the Gusties post a record of 7-1 on the week. Click was just as effective in the field as she was at the plate as she recorded four putouts, with 14 assists and one error for a .947 fielding percentage. Click was 2-for-5 with three runs scored in the Gusties doubleheader sweep of Hamline to start the week. She then went 1-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI as the Gusties split with Saint Mary’s on Thursday. On Saturday, Click went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and three runs scored as Gustavus swept St. Catherine. Click wrapped up the week going 5-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI as Gustavus swept Carleton.

The Gustavus baseball team is 19-10 overall, 7-5 in the MIAC, and has won seven of its last ten games, including five in a row. The Gustie softball team is 22-6 overall, 16-2 in the MIAC, and has won 22 of 24 since opening the season 0-4.
