Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season With Wins Over Concordia, Hamline and Macalester Posted on April 22nd, 2006 by

The Gustavus men’s tennis team completed its regular season with impressive wins over Concordia (8-1), Macalester (9-0), and Hamline (9-0). The Gusties, who are currently rated #1 in the ITA Division III poll, are now 28-4 overall and 9-0 in the MIAC.

Coach Steve Wilkinson’s squad dropped only one match and four sets in the 27 matches played during the day. The team won 17 of 18 singles matches and all nine doubles matches.

As a result of winning the three MIAC matches, Gustavus completed its 21st consecutive undefeated season in MIAC play (9-0). The last time the Gusties dropped a MIAC regular season match was in April of 1985 (St. Thomas). It is the only MIAC regular season dual match that Coach Steve Wilkinson has lost in his 36-year coaching career.

Gustavus, which finished the regular season on an eight-match winning streak, will play in the MIAC Championship next Friday and Saturday in Northfield, Minn. The Gusties have posted a mark of 20-0 against Division III opponents this season.
