The Gustavus Adolphus women’s track and field team posted a number of top-ten finishes at Saturday’s Manitou Classic hosted by St. Olaf College. Senior Kourtney Joyce (Wadena, Minn.) won the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:52.05, while Lisa Brown (Fy., Lake Crystal, Minn.) placed first in the javelin throw with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 133 feet, 9 inches. Ashley Cronen (Sr., Kandiyohi, Minn.) finished third in the 800-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:15.35.
In the 100-meter dash, Kelsey Becker (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) captured the last place in the final with a ninth-place qualifying time of 13.26 seconds and made it pay off, clocking a time of 13.07 seconds in the final to finish fifth. Becker later finished tenth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.78 seconds. She finished just ahead of teammate Linda Kanne (Fy., Franklin, Minn.), who finished 11th.
In addition to Joyce in the 5000-meter run, other Gustie distance runners fared well. Val Berquam (Jr., Kenyon, Minn.) finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:59.68, while Sarah Bernhardson (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished fifth in the 10000-meter run (38:59.17) and Mollie Lager (Sr., Robbinsdale, Minn.) finished ninth in the 1500-meter run (4:58.86).
Carlie Hanson (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) captured fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.59, while Elizabeth Pringle (400-meter dash) and Sam Madsen (800-meter run) each brought home tenth place finishes. Pringle, a first-year running in her hometown of Northfield, crossed the line with a 1:01.75 clocking, while Madsen (Fy., Morgan, Minn.) stopped the clock at 2:22.58.
Sari Lindeman (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.) was the only other Gustie to post a pair of top ten individual finishes, placing third in the long jump (16-7.75) and fifth in the triple jump (35-4.5). Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.) added a tie for fifth in the pole vault (10-8.75) while Ashley Clemen (Jr., Appleton, Minn.) placed sixth in the discus throw (127-1).
Gustavus also picked up top-five relay finishes in the 400-meter relay (fourth, 49.68 seconds) and the 3200-meter relay (fifth, 9:49.45).
The Gusties return to the track next Saturday when they host the Drake Alternative.
